Saturday, February 26th, 2011 the UU Growth Lab Facebook Group was launched to serve as a “free space and think tank for Unitarian Universalist change agents.” The need for such a space had come up on the UU Growth Blog this Winter while exploring some hot topics such as ordination and alternative forms of ministry.
From time to time people would ask, “Where can we talk more openly about these things?” Enter the UU Growth Lab!
Within 15 minutes of creating the group, people started finding it and joining simply by searching for Unitarian Universalism on Facebook. By the end of the weekend it was clear that we have a lot of UU change agents out there, and that the lab was, well, alive…
Two weeks into this UU social media experiment over 300 Unitarian Universalists had joined and were sharing ideas, dreaming, innovating…. One of the ideas was to have a weekly blog challenge where the lab could address a question and members could offer comments to be shared publicly. This site, uugrowthlab.com, has been created to house these public posts and to give the lab more of its own identity.
Who knows what the lab is going to evolve into, nor what impact it will have on the Unitarian Universalist Association, our congregations and Unitarian Universalism at large. However, this much is already clear – it is evolving, it is having an impact on those in the lab, and it will be at General Assembly.
